In the repeat session of this very popular workshop with Indigenous artist, Clark Morrissett, you will have the opportunity to learn about the concepts of the Seven Sacred Teachings and Virtues of Indigenous cultures.
Our focus will be Woodland Art – its traditions, imagery, style and artists. We will pay tribute to the work of trailblazing Indigenous artists such as Norval Morrisseau and Jackson Beardy. We will discover the role of animals in Woodland art, and the meaning of the symbols in the paintings. Participants will have the opportunity to create a painting in the Woodlands style. (Grades 3 and up)
Clark Morrissett is a proud Métis man who was born and raised in Winnipeg. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba. He draws inspiration from both classical and contemporary art and in particular from Indigenous artists such as Norval Morrisseau and Alex Janvier.
